Africa as ‘the poem of the strength, struggle and sufferings of black people'.
The poem Africa is written by David Diop, one of the revolutionary African poets. The poem describes about the strength, struggle and sufferings of African black people. The poet himself is speaking about his motherland and he had firm hope in the freedom movement of black people.
In the poem the poet admires the beauty and history of Africa (his motherland). So he says “beautiful black blood”. At the very beginning of the poem he presented an idealized image of Africa. Then follows a realistic picture of African’s experience of bitterness, despair and mockery under colonial rule.Instead of all these the poem is a powerful presentation of strength of black people. So he compares the African freedom movement to ‘a young and strong tree ‘.According to the poet African struggle is like a lonely battle but they will achieve the freedom and liberty they want no matter how bitter the taste in getting in getting it.Thus the poem is most unique poem.
